This painting is another in my series of personal takes on stories and characters from various mythologies and religions. Here we see Coronis, who was carrying the child of Apollo. However, she slept with the mortal, Ischys. Apollo was told of the cheating by the raven, whom he had sent to keep an eye on her. Apollo was so mad at the raven, who at that time was a white bird, for not reporting to him before the cheating occurred that he burned the raven until it was black. He then sent his sister, Artemis, to kill Coronis with her arrows.
I take these stories and characters and place them in modern settings, using regular people as models for even the most powerful deities, and leaving little symbolic clues to the story throughout each painting. I enjoy making each work into a bit of a "treasure hunt" or puzzle to solve for the viewer. I find it a wonderful and fun way to pull people into the work and really study it.

The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings. Andrews has always had a love of art and the stories it can tell. This love led him to pursue and earn a BFA in Theatrical Design from the State University of New York at New Paltz and,...
