I have driven past this spot for years, on my way to work, but never saw more than the beautiful trees lining the road. Some time ago, the entire large forest lot was cut down, revealing this little moss covered shed and this "last man standing" tree next to it. I'm really drawn to these two remaining partners when I drive down Gunderson Road, now. I have painted this scene in my head a hundred times as I've passed, and it was simply time to do it for real.
James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and oil pencil, the bulk of his professional work is acrylic on canvas. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings.
