This is one of the more raw and personal images I have ever done. Marissa, the model, is a great pal of mine from my SUNY New Paltz theatre days. For years, as Marissa has put it, her "boobs have been trying to kill (her)." Her story, like so many others, is long, frustrating, maddening, sad, but also filled with hope and sooo much fight. When I let her know that I wanted to paint her and what I had in mind for possible poses, she was 100% down with it---total rock star. When I saw this pose...this look in her eyes, every idea I had went out the window--this was it--this pose said every truth that needed to be said. Social media is, as we know, far too often a giant dumpster fire. However, because of things like this I am very thankful for it. It has kept me connected with people like my friend, here. When I got my ticket to the cancer circus Marissa and so many (too many) others were right there to show me how it was done. When chemo and its side effects were kicking my ass, painting was the only time I forgot I was hurting. I am thankful to know this wonderful badass woman and still have her in my life, after all these years. I am proud of this painting and so very thankful for everything which has helped me be able to make it...and to share it with you. I'm incredibly lucky. Thanks, Universe. ✌❤🎨
