Artist's Description
This is a scene that could have been any number of yards or fields near my home on the East End of Long Island, growing up. There were plenty of lots and fields to explore and just hang out in on a summer evening as the grass just started to get cool under your feet. The old boat and ladder--the sky and trees and fireflies all show up in my other works. It goes to show that we communicate with the words and pictures we know best.

About James Andrews

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings. Andrews has always had a love of art and the stories it can tell. This love led him to pursue and earn a BFA in Theatrical Design from the State University of New York at New Paltz and,...
