If Nature of The Self was the first tree/face painting, then this piece was the first in the series it inspired. This piece started with a very different idea in my sketchbook. It clearly wanted to be something else and this peaceful painting, which seems like it could be the love child of a Parrish poster and a Yes album cover, was the result. This piece holds a special place in my heart because it was the painting that started me back on the road to my career as an artist.

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings.
