Artist's Description
The piece is about finding peace and balance in my life while confronting cancer and the possibility of an earlier than planned death. Lemons are both sweet and sharp, and also a symbol of purification. I've felt a bit like I've gone through a "trial by fire" over the last few years, and while it hasn't made me any more "pure" it certainly has helped me put what is truly important in better perspective. The olive sprig behind brings the peace and balance to the skull and lemon symbolism.
About James Andrews

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings. Andrews has always had a love of art and the stories it can tell. This love led him to pursue and earn a BFA in Theatrical Design from the State University of New York at New Paltz and,...
