Artist's Description

This painting is a collection of items which symbolize various aspects of my life. The central skull represents my confronting my own mortality over the last few years as I've battled cancer. The silver bowl is a trophy from one of my father's dog show victories--We raised German Shepard dogs when I was a kid. The candles and the laurel on the jug represent my life as a teacher. The apple is a nod to both my teaching and to me growing up in New York. Finally, encircling all of these objects, ever present in the background, is my palette--representing the art which drives me and saves me every day.
