Nine is a very common number in spirituality and one could easily take this piece to wherever it fit for them. For me, this painting is about the journey home, once we are done with this existence. I think of the nine boats as representing the nine choruses of angles helping and comforting me as I take one last spin around my favorite parts of this plane before moving on to the next adventure.

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings.
